Students will be required to meet with the program director prior to the start of class to be sure they are committed to the rigorous program. Students should plan on the program taking about 16 months. The course requires an EMT Basic exam to evaluate student's knowledge upon entering the program. Students are expected to complete 400 hours of hospital clinicals and 400 hours of field clinicals during the program, as well as pass the classroom portion of the class. Our goal is "to prepare competent entry-level Paramedics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains with or without exit points at the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician and/or Emergency Medical Technician, and/or Emergency Medical Responder levels." Our Convenient shift-based program allows students to pick which day they come to class each week. The program is innovative and uses multiple teaching styles to reach out to the student. Not only do we provide in-person lecture, we also use video-based learning to help students visualize concepts. When we move to the lab portion of the course, students are able to utilize skills rooms that are designed to mimic their future surroundings. For example, students can start a call in the nursing home room, move the patient to the mock ambulance, 2 doors down, and then transfer the patient to the ER room. This hands-on practical application pushes our program ahead of the competition. The training center also has its own dedicated ambulance so students can practice skills in a moving truck. Our program includes all costs to graduate. The only additional fee is when the student goes on to test for practical exam and NREMT exam. The cost of the program is $8800, which includes A&P.

The field experience hours can be completed towards the end of clinical hours, once a field experience practical has been completed. This allows the student to complete 60 hours of ambulance time. Students must then pass a practical examination and have all hospital clinical hours completed to move on to the capstone (team lead section).

Our partnership with Lake Ozark Fire allows us to bring our live lecture to their classroom twice a week (Tuesday/Wednesday) with Lab 2 Mondays a month. This convenient satellite program allows us to reach out to students who would have to travel for hours to attend a paramedic program. Students are required to attend the virtual lecture at Lake Ozark Fire's Classroom to encourage additional participation and feedback.
JCAD and LOFPD have procured new clinical contracts in the Lake region, not only with EMS partners but also with local hospitals to provide convenient opportunities for our students.
Our twice a month mandatory lab days allow for students to attend on-site and have hands-on practice. These dates help tie the online lecture into the reality of being a paramedic. Lab days are staffed by JCAD instructors who have been trained on how to provide high-quality education through hands-on simulations.
Interested students should email program director Nick McDaniels: jcadedu@gmail.com to receive assessments for the satellite program. Following the successful completion of assessments, a satellite enrollment link can be sent.
The Johnson County Ambulance District Paramedic program has been issued a Letter of Review by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). This letter is NOT a CAAHEP accreditation status, it is a status signifying that a program seeking initial accreditation has demonstrated sufficient compliance with the accreditation standards through the Letter of Review Self Study Report (LSSR) and other documentation. Letter of Review is recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) for eligibility to take the NREMT's Paramedic credentialing examination(s). However, it is NOT a guarantee of eventual accreditation. To contact CoAEMSP: 8301 Lakeview Parkway, Suite 111-312 Rowlett, TX 75088 214-703-8445 Fax: 214-703-8992 www.coaemsp.org"
